Contact Introduced By Edit

New Contact(s) Edit

You might want to go introduce yourself to Lou Pasterelli. His politics are more than a little radical and he's had some run-ins with the authorities, but he can be a great help against the Devouring Earth and Crey. He works primarily with science heroes and has access to Invention and Genetic Alteration Enhancements.

Lou is a firebrand, but he knows how to get things done!

Jenny Firkins is an environmentally conscious scientist who has a personal stake in bringing down the Devouring Earth and Crey. She is very dedicated to her work with science heroes and has access to Invention and Genetic Alteration Enhancements.

Jenny cares very much about Paragon City. I think you will find working with her a pleasure.

Information Edit

Missing Persons Investigator

Eliza Thorpe works for the city´s Missing Persons Bureau, an agency that specializes in finding the lost and preventing the kidnappings that occur all too frequently in Paragon City. A former FBI agent, Eliza moved to Paragon City to search for her parents, who went missing just after the Rikti War. She never found them, but her life was changed forver when she learned how many disapperances occur in Paragon City every day. She and her colleagues work hand in hand with the city´s heroes to try and stem the tide of kidnappings, but it is definitely a uphill battle. Eliza remains hopeful that the situation will improve if she keeps fighting the good fight, but she realizes she will need plenty of help.

Will of the Earth Sample

You've kept this sealed sample of the Devouring Earth's strange mutagen, the Will of the Earth. It's a reminder of the adventure you've come to think of as:

An Unnatural Order

It began when your contact sent you to investigate a Devouring Earth raid. After stopping the destruction, you learned that the creatures were after some biotechnology equipment. So it came as no surprise when your contact sent you to protect Lomad Labs, a biotechnology firm, from the creatures. However, you were appalled to learn that, in addition to equipment, the Devouring Earth was making off with Lomad's scientists.

You hastened after the kidnapped scientists and managed to rescue many of them. One of the hostages informed you that the Devouring Earth had also abducted several mystics from the area. Your contact sent you to a nearby Council base to seek clues to the location of these missing magicians. A Council file tipped you off to the Devouring Earth's base location, and you saved the missing mystics. However, you learned of two more hostages the Devouring Earth still held in its clutches.

You set off at once to resuce Professor August P. Lovelethe and Dr. Achilles Theron. Although you saved the professor, you learned that Dr. Theron might not want to be rescued. Indeed, it seemed he was in league with the Devouring Earth!

The doctor planned to help the Devouring Earth release a terrible mutagen into the city's water system. You prevented this vile plan, and recovered a sample of the mutagen, the Will of the Earth. It was strange stuff, this mutagen. You could hear a mental voice emanating from it. By listening to this voice, you were able to track down the last remnants of the mutagen. In doing so, you came face to face with the treacherous Dr. Theron. You defeated the doctor, now a hideous Devouring Earth creature, and recovered the Will of the Earth.

Defeat the Devouring Earth before they can mount a full attack Edit

Briefing

I have something that needs your attention. Devouring Earth creatures have been spotted massing in a warehouse. They're trashing the place, but I don't think that's the sum of their plan. There's a good chance that their masters are planning some kind of raid and are using the place as a rally point. If you can defeat the Devouring Earth before they can mount a full attack, we could save a lot of people and property.

Keep on the lookout for any clues that might explain why the Devouring Earth is attacking that warehouse.

Mission Objective(s)

From the number of muddy trails tracked through this lobby, you guess the Devouring Earth have a big project going on here.

  • Stop Devouring Earth raid
    • 2 workers left, 7 crates to find

You defeated the Devouring Earth and rescued their victims.

One of the warehouse workers you rescued told you:

'I'm real glad to see you! And I think I might have something that'll help you out. The whole time those things were here, I kept my eyes open. And they were rooting through boxes, taking all kinds of stuff! Fact is, I think that's why they came.'

You saved a lot of lives today. It's kind of odd, though. You say the Devouring Earth stole a shipment of technological devices? Usually they just destroy anything man made.

Stop the Devouring Earth attack Edit

Briefing

Apparently that Devouring Earth technology theft wasn't merely random violence. The creatures are after the same company they stole from, Lomad Labs. This time they've struck one of the company's lab facilities. They're tearing the place apart and kidnapping scientists. You've got to stop the Devouring Earth attack!

The Devouring Earth hate technology and everything man made, so it's no surprise that they'd stage an attack on a biotech company. But they must have something against Lomad Labs. After all, they were destroying Lomad's shipments when you fought them in that warehouse.

Mission Objective(s)

The lab's high tech security system is still sending out a desperate screech.

  • Stop Devouring Earth attack
    • 3 scientists to save

You have defeated the Devouring Earth and saved many of the Lomad Labs researchers.

Scientist's concerns
One of the scientists you rescued told you:

'I'm glad you came to save us, but those creatures already took a number of my comrades away. They gathered us up, and sorted through everyone. They seemed to identify us by scent! They picked a few people out and took them away. I hate to think what will happen to them.'

You did as well as you possibly could, but it sure seems like the Devouring Earth have something against Lomad Labs. That's two strikes they've made against the company so far! I know that you're worried about the scientists those creatures kidnapped, but it's not over yet. Those people may still have a chance.

Save the scientists from the Devouring Earth Edit

Briefing

I got some info on those scientists the Devouring Earth kidnapped from Lomad Labs. One of them was able to get a call out on his cell phone. The police are gathering forces to mount a rescue, but I don't think we have time to wait. Save those scientists from the Devouring Earth!

The Devouring Earth moved the scientists into a series of shallow caverns. They're probably waiting for things to quiet down so they can move the scientists to their main habitat out in Eden.

Mission Objective(s)

You hear a shouted order and frown. When did the Devouring Earth learn 'Attack Maneuver Theta?'

  • Rescue kidnapped scientists
    • 3 scientists to rescue

You have rescued the kidnapped researchers from Lomad Labs.

Icon clue generic
Scientist's warning
One of the kidnapped scientists you rescued told you:

'You need to know that we weren't the only prisoners they had. There was also a woman named Raquel Thibodaux, a mystic anthropologist who had recently arrived in Paragon City. She said she was kidnapped a few nights ago, and had met several other mystic researchers who had also been kidnapped by the Devouring Earth. But they moved all of us after the Council attacked.'

One of the kidnapped scientists you rescued told you:

Kidnapped scientists, and now missing mystics too. It seems the Devouring Earth have been busy. I checked around; a French mystic named Raquel Thibodaux did arrive in town last week, but she hasn't been to any of the conferences she came here to attend. We need some way to locate her and any more kidnapped people before it's too late.

Seek information in Council base Edit

Briefing

It seems those scientists you rescued were right: the Devouring Earth have kidnapped a lot more people than we had guessed. I've been able to link several missing persons cases to recent Devouring Earth raids. They've been taking mystics from all over the area. Right now, our best chance at finding them is to get information on their movements from some of their enemies. One of the scientists you rescued in the caves mentioned an attack by the Council. There's probably a Council base near those caves. I need you to go to that base and see if they have any information about where the Devouring Earth are taking the kidnapped people.

Whatever the Devouring Earth is up to, it's big. Some of the kidnapped were from cities normally outside their range. Let's just hope that the Council's habit of careful record keeping work for us this time.

Mission Objective(s)

The Council always keeps close tabs on other groups. It's a sure bet that they have info on the Devouring Earth.

  • Seek info at Council base
    • Locate any evidence

You've found the information you need to locate the remaining kidnapping victims.

Thanks for getting this information. Now maybe we can find those people the Devouring Earth kidnapped.

Rescue the hostages from the Devouring Earth Edit

Briefing

That information you recovered pinpoints the last known location of the mystics the Devouring Earth kidnapped. However, it looks like there may be one more person to look for. I just got a call from Lomad Labs. Seems one of their researchers, a Dr. Theron, disappeared from his home last night. They must have grabbed him after you rescued those other Lomad techs. I need you to rescue the hostages from the Devouring Earth. You're the best chance they've got.

Kidnapped scientists, missing mystics, and stolen lab equipment. I still have no idea what the Devouring Earth are planning, but it can't be good.

Mission Objective(s)

Shuffling human footprints mark the ground. Looking at them, you can almost feel the hostages' weariness and desperation.

  • Defeat all creatures in cave
    • 3 mystics to save
    • 3 mystics to lead out

You have defeated the Devouring Earth and rescued most of their victims.

Notes

  • You do not have to lead each mystic out individually. You can collect them all before heading toward the exit, though you will have to deal with ambushes along the way.

Raquel Thibodaux' story
When you rescued Raquel Thibodaux, she told you:

'You have arrived in time to save our lives, but those foul creatures still have two prisoners. The monsters moved Professor August P. Lovelethe and Dr. Achilles Theron to another location. Save Dr. Theron and Professor Lovelethe Edit

Briefing

Raquel Thibodaux, one of the mystics you rescued from the Devouring Earth, just contacted me. She says she's divined the location of the last two people taken by the Devouring Earth. With luck, we can still save Dr. Theron and Professor Lovelethe.

You had better take along some spare emergency teleporters, just in case.

Raquel said that this area may contain answers for you. She was pretty vague about it, but you better keep your eyes peeled.

Mission Objective(s)

It's bitterly cold in this wilderness, cold enough to make you shudder in sympathy for the Devouring Earth's hostages.

  • Rescue missing scientists
    • Find doctor, Seek clues, Find Professor

You've rescued Professor Lovelethe and discovered the Devouring Earth's plan.

Icon clue generic
Dr. Theron's journal
After reading a few entries from this tattered journal, you can feel Dr. Theron's growing disgust with humanity and society. In the latter half of the book, there are vague references to meetings with the 'New ones.' The last few entries deal with Dr. Theron's growing desire to help his new friends, and perhaps even become one of them. As he puts it:

'To leave this sickening species behind me and be reborn in the biological crucible of the Hamidon. To shed my old flesh and live forever as part of a new ecology. To join myself, body and soul, with the Devouring Earth! How I long for that day!'

Icon clue generic
Professor Lovelethe's story
When you rescued Professor Lovelethe, he told you:

'I have failed. I am sorry, but I have failed this city and its people. The Devouring Earth wanted Dr. Theron and me to help them make something they called the Will of the Earth. A terrible stuff, a mutagenic bacterium infused with magical power. I refused and waited for death. But Dr. Theron convinced me we could sabotage their plan if I would help him.

'I agreed, but I was a fool. Theron betrayed me. He was working for them the entire time! They only have a sample, but the havoc it could wreak is incalculable. I think they plan to release it into the sewer system as a test. You must stop them!'

Prevent the Devouring Earth from releasing the Will of the Earth into the water system Edit

Briefing

According to that scientist you rescued, Professor Lovelethe, the Devouring Earth plan to release this mutagen of theirs into the sewers. We may not have much time. You've got to stop the Devouring Earth from releasing the Will of the Earth into the water system.

The mutagen is contained in giant crystal structures. You'll need to destroy all of them.

Mission Objective(s)

Not far away, you hear the shuffling of Devouring Earth creatures.

  • Stop release of mutagen
    • 5 crystals to destroy

You have recovered the Devouring Earth's magical mutagen and prevented its release.

Holding this Devouring Earth mutagen is the strangest experience. I swear, I can hear its voice chattering away inside my head! It seems to be talking to a larger colony of mutagenic bacteria. If there's a larger colony, then this still isn't over.

Destroy the Will of the Earth Edit

Briefing

Okay. You've already gone beyond the call of duty to destroy this Devouring Earth mutagen, the Will of the Earth. But it looks like there's more of this stuff out there, and the Devouring Earth might be getting ready to unleash it on the populace. You need to destroy the Will of the Earth, once and for all. Thankfully, this sample of the mutagen seems to have some sort of telepathic connection to the rest. It should lead you in the right direction.

It's only a matter of time before the Devouring Earth unleash this mutagen on the city.

Mission Objective(s)

This magical mutagen seems to truly have an intelligence of its own. Its voice whispers insidious comments inside your head.

  • Defeat all creatures in cave
    • 3 crystals to destroy

You have defeated the Devouring Earth and contained their mutagen.

You did it. You stopped the Devouring Earth from releasing their mutagen! I can't even imagine what might have happened if you hadn't been there, but congrats. You did a bang up job. I'll make sure that all of the Will of the Earth you recovered gets to the proper labs. Maybe one day, we'll find a way to reverse the changes it can cause.

This has taught us a lot about the Devouring Earth that we didn't know before. Until now, everyone always thought the leaders of the Devouring Earth were people who were producing monsters. But Dr. Theron's transformation seems to indicate that any person who was once a member is now a monster himself! I wonder what this leader of theirs is like, this strange Hamidon. But I guess that's a worry for later.

Save the congressman and his aides from the Devouring Earth Edit

Briefing

You heard that Congressman Bill Marlowe is visiting the city, right? He's meeting with the City Council, trying to start a program to encourage pro-hero initiatives nationwide. Well, I just learned that a swarm of Devouring Earth monsters is after him! One of his staffers called. The Devouring Earth just attacked their headquarters; the congressman and his aids escaped, but they're still in danger. Someone's got to save those people from the Devouring Earth.

All right, the Congressman and his aides escaped the first attack, but now they're out on the streets. An emergency force field will keep the rest of the city safe, but it won't do much for Marlowe's staff; they're trapped inside. You've got to get them out of there!

Mission Objective(s)

Well, these are definitely Council devices. They seem to be part of an electro-chemical control network. It would require a good deal of surgery to install. I have a theory, but I'm afraid it's rather, well, disturbing.

I think the Council may be trying to subvert these creatures and use them to do their dirty work. They're turning them into remote control monsters! But now that we know about it, we should be able to intercept the control signals and pinpoint their point of origin. And look here: we've already got a good lead. I need you to go to this location and shut this Council project down for good.

Mission Objective(s)

Terra Volta briefing
When Oswald Price built the first electrical power plant in Paragon City, he placed it on a verdant, underdeveloped island in the middle of the city's port. Drawing on his classical education, he named the island 'Terra Volta'. Oswald's island soon blossomed with industry, as manufacturing companies sought the proximity of the port and power plant. The plant eventually gave way to a modern nuclear facility, but Terra Volta remains the city's primary power source. Unfortunately, it has not remained industrious. Many companies abandoned their factories during the Rikti War, fearing an attack on the plant. As a result, several villain groups now make their home on the island. The nuclear power plant remains under the city's control, but no one knows how long it will stay that way.

Save the hostages and find out what the Devouring Earth are up to Edit

I have a situation with the Devouring Earth. Their creatures have been spotted in a warehouse, and eyewitnesses say they have hostages. The Devouring Earth rarely let humans live, or at least, rarely let them continue to live as humans. I need you to save those hostages and find out what the Devouring Earth are up to. Are you up to it? You only have 1 hour to deal with the situation.

Check out the caverns Edit

Briefing

I've got a bad feeling about this one; I think you should recruit a team. I heard some kids were partying in some caves near Talos Island, when a tired, unkempt woman crawled up from the depths of the cavern. It was Dr. Eileen Turner, the missing geologist. The kids gave her some food, but she said she had to return to the cavern before 'the Devoured' found her missing. She begged the kids to tell someone that the city faced great danger from under the earth. I think you should check out those caverns. You only have 90 minutes to deal with the situation. And you'll need at least one teammate.

It sounds like Dr. Turner is in the clutches of the Devouring Earth. No one knows who's the mastermind behind those monsters' mayhem. But whoever he is, he's willing to kill and destroy to achieve his extremist ecological goals.

Mission Objective(s)

You've wandered these twisted caverns for what seems like hours. You only hope you're not walking in circles.

Protect the lab from the Lost Edit

Briefing

A Portal Corporation research lab that works on monitoring the teleportation grid just came under attack from the Lost. They need help, fast. The teleportation grid is one of the things that keeps Paragon City's heroes alive. I need you to protect that lab from the Lost. They think that their security might be able to hold off the Lost for up to 2 hours, and who knows what the Lost will do after that. That teleportation equipment is critical. If it's destroyed, we'll have to consider this mission a failure.

That teleportation grid is integral to this city. If the Lost take it down, we could lose a lot of fine heroes.

Mission Objective(s)

The Lost hit the place by surprise, blasting their way in with scavenged Rikti weapons. The Lab's defenses didn't last a minute.

  • Defeat Lost leader, his men - 2:00 timed
    • 6 scientists to save, 3 machines to save

The Lost's attack on the Lab is over.

Quantum Flux Discovery
When you rescued her, Dr. Harlie Arcadia told you:

'We were conducting a routine study of the teleportation grid the city uses to rescue heroes in mortal danger, when we noticed some strange perturbations in the network. Firstly, it seems that the network is handling far more traffic than it should be. And secondly, some of this traffic isn't matter moving across the grid, but some sort of quantum flux. I don't know if it's related to this attack, but I thought you should know in case it is.'

Quantum Flux Complexity
When you rescued him, Dr. Albert Quigley told you:

'Shortly before we were attacked we'd discovered a strange quantum flux in the teleportation network. The astounding thing about these strange patterns was their astounding complexity. I have no idea what it could be, but our attackers kept asking what we knew about it.'

Quantum Flux Theory
When you rescued her, Dr. Victoria Lazlowe told you:

'I had a theory about the strange quantum fluctuations my colleagues had discovered. They can explain more about the discovery itself, but the complexity and the pattern of the fluctuations looks to me at least like some kind of communication. Like something has either been using the teleport grid to communicate or it's communication has been picked up accidentally by the grid. I suppose we should have expected an attack, but not from the Lost. How could they use the grid at all?'

Debriefing

From what the scientists you rescued say, it seems that the attack might have been triggered by their discovery of that strange quantum flux on the teleportation grid. I wonder if it really is some kind of communication, like Dr. Lazlowe theorized. And why would that interest the Lost at all? It may be a long time before anyone knows. But today you saved a lot of lives, and that's what's important.

Stop the spread of the drug Shift Edit

Briefing

There's been some rumors circulating around about a nasty new drug called Shift that the Family has been selling sporadically. It's a euphoric hallucinogen with a nasty addictive side, but they've already sold out of their supplies. Here's the twist, though. Analysis of captured samples of the drug link it chemically to the mutagens found in the system of captured members of the Lost. My sources have pinned down where the Family are going to be buying themselves a new supply of this stuff. If you can shut this down now, maybe you can stop the spread of this Shift.

I knew I could count on you.

Mission Objective(s)

You can hear the sounds of talking inside. It sounds like a lot of deals are being made.

  • Stop villains' leader, his men
    • 2 drugs to find, Find drug data!

You have stopped the transaction between the Family and the Lost and stopped the spread of the drug 'Shift'.

Lost mutagens
This sickly liquid is a sample of the mutagens that the Lost use to alter their initiates into something other than human. Oddly, the abhorrent looking sludge has a strangely compelling odor.

Shift creation notes
These roughly written yet extensive notes detail step by step the process of altering the Lost Mutagen into the experimental drug called Shift.

Debriefing

The way you shut down 'Shift' has knocked the drug right off the streets. It seems the Family felt it was a little to hot to move, and now none of the other street gangs are touching the stuff after you took such decisive action. I'll make sure that all of the samples you took go to right people, just in case the Lost find a new distributor.
